Canyon fishing on Monday, September 4, 2006
Report posted by Capt. Lindsay Fuller of the June Bug on 9/05/06

Monday, September 4 saw June Bug taking the Rich Carpenter party offshore.  The trip had been scheduled for Friday but the big blow blew that out.  Aboard were Rich’s wife, daughter, the daughter’s boyfriend, and a couple of Rich’s hunting buddies.  As always, it turned out that we had friends in common.

The goal was to catch Rich’s wife and daughter some tuna.  After the big storm, one guess was as good as another as to where the fish might be but we laid our bets, as per usual when we are not sure of the conditions, on the Lindenkohl.  The bet paid off.  We had one 35-pound tuna right at daybreak and a second fish got away.  We started picking up Mahi around the pots and noticed that the Mahi around one pot were very excited and were jumping out of the water.  We trolled around that pot a few times and had a major strike that turned out to be a 60-pound Yellowfin.  After that was in the boat, the Mahi got easier to catch.

We continued catching Mahi around the pots until we had a dozen to 15.

Another nice Yellowfin was picked up late in the day.

We had two biteoffs from Wahoo.  One was a very large fish and actually pulled the snap on the snap swivel apart.  A big splash and away it went.  That’s fishin’.
